Mentor Services (MENT) Mentor services are individualized
contact and attention for individual children. Mentors are
specifically trained and experienced with working with
children, in fact, most are trained as mental health
technicians. Each mentor will develop specific goals and
objectives for the relationship. Goals are met by developing
positive and productive activities and working closely with the
parent, the social worker, the teacher, and any other adults
involved in the child’s life. Mentors typically meet with the
child between eight and twenty hours each month with
weekly contacts. A clear and specific summary report is
made every two months or more frequently if requested.

Mentor Services, Family Assistance, Parent Aid and Education
|
Family Assistance (FMAS) The category of Family
Assistance has been redefined to focus specifically
on specialized behavioral services for children and
families who are experiencing developmental
disorders or retardation. The Family Assistance
worker is specially trained in behavioral techniques
and functional assessment. The FA worker will
assist the child by providing structure and
behavioral change strategies in weekly
individualized contacts. The FA worker will help
the parent develop a home-structure that can best
meet the developmental and social needs of the
child. The FA worker has a Bachelor’s degree in a
mental health field and is provided additional
guidance and supervisory support by a licensed
therapist.
Parent Education (PECB) McDonnell & Associates has also
been approved to provide classroom-based education and
training activities for parents who are involved with the
Children’s Division and the Courts. The classes include
specific information about developmental levels, appropriate
discipline, child abuse and educational needs of children.
Included in McDonnell and Associates Parent Education
program is a period of observation within the home to
develop specific goals and objectives as well as evaluation
procedures before and after the classes to measure change.
Parent Aid (PRAD) The parent aid services have also
recently been redefined. This service now provides for
individualized parent education and training. Each parent
completes a pre-service evaluation and helps develop
appropriate goals and objectives. This service is educational
in nature and provided within the home. The services will
include specific instruction on topics similar to our classroom-
based group education but will be provided within the home
and individually.
